Haute Route 8 - ATK Binding

ATK's Haute Route 8 is a lightweight "Speed Touring" binding which combines a minimalist monolink toepiece with a heel unit with independent pins, adjustable lateral and vertical release and 30 mm boot length adjustment. The Haute Route 8 has a magnetic heel flap on the heel unit while the toe unit comes equipped with ATK's Up-Hill Hardness Variator  that allows adjustment of the locking hardness in uphill mode. The Haute Route 8 is sure to be a popular binding that is a great choice lighter skiers wanting a high performance lightweight touring. The Haute Route 8 comes complete with ATK's SRA crampon slot, Kevlar leash and ATK's R01 adjustment plate as standard.

Like the other bindings in ATK's "Speed Touring" series, the toe unit of the Haute Route 8 features ATK's "Easy Entry System" so that boot entry is easy, intuitive and fast.
The Haute Route 8 uses ATK's Monolink Technology 1.0 design whereby only one of the toe piece arms has springs. This design saves weight and provides a higher locking force on the boot for secure boot retention. The removable SRA crampon slot is supplied as standard. The toe lever has a new design with easier activation and a larger depression for catching the pole tip to open the toe unit.
Unlike the other ATK "Speed Touring" series bindings, the Haute Route 8 has a fully adjustable heel unit with independently adjustable lateral and vertical release with a range of 3-8 DIN.
To achieve this the heel unit does not use a "U" spring but rather independent pins as found on heavier AT bindings, with ATK's Cam Release System. This stabilizes the heel pins and provides the torsional stiffness ATK bindings are reknowned for. The special Cam profile is pressed against the heel pins by a pre-tensioned spring: during step in, or on the event of a fall the pins are forced to go through the cam profile which provides a precise resistance to pin release depending upon the release value set on the bindings.  This mechanism provides the most stable downhill performance on the market with consistent reduction of boot torsion compared to any other tech heel unit design. It also provides the softest heel step in of any bindings.  The heel unit is supplied mounted on the R01 heel adjustment plate that gives 30 mm of boot sole adjustment, so that the bindings can be used with three shell sizes without requiring re-mounting. The heel unit offers three heights for climbing: Flat, +36mm and +50 mm.

The Haute Route 8 does not come with ski brakes but these are available as optional extras, the Race Ski Brake.
Despite the more sophisticated design of the heel unit, the Haute Route 8 weighs in at only 165 g per ski, or 225 g with the "Speed Kit"  comprising crampon slot, leash and adjustment plate included. A superb light binding with fully adjustable release, the Haute Route 8 is sure to be in big demand once again this winter.
