Based at Thyez in the northern Alps, half way between Chamonix and Geneva, Plum are a small French company specialised in precision engineering. Since 2005 Plum have been developing bindings in conjunction with the Compagnie de Guides at Chamonix, and supply binding to the Chasseurs Alpins, the elite French mountain soldiers of the French army. A new binding for 2024, the Karibou is Plum's freeride binding and is available in a choice of two release settings, 7 or 12 DIN. The Plum Karibou 7 has a range of 3.5-7 DIN and is produced with a choice of 100 mm or 120 mm ski brakes.
The Karibou toepiece features a new patented system provides elasticity to improve ski flex under heavy compression and avoid unintended binding release, making these bindings a good choice for aggressive skiers. The Karibou has 4 mm flex elasticity in the heel unit, plus 8 mm in the toe unit, making a total of 12 mm.
Plum touring bindings are robust, easy to use and super reliable, so much so that Plum offer a FIVE year guarantee on all touring bindings. The Karibou 7 +Ski brakes is specially designed for women and/or lightweight skiers wanting a binding to that will let them ski hard with confidence. The Karibou 7offers a lower lateral and vertical release and all the comfort (automatic brake system, user friendly heel risers) and freeride features (wide drilling distance, toe place to ensure a flat position on skis). The elastic response system located under the toe plate provides a better balance and optimize the ski flexion, particularly on softer skis. A good choice for energetic lighter weight ski tourers looking for a performance freerando binding.
Total elasticity of 12mm: the usual 4mm at the rear + 8mm integrated into the toe unit Better balance between the weight of the bumper and the weight of the heel pad Better distribution of elasticity between the toe and heel piece Improves the progressiveness of ski flexion during high compression (very hard turns and jumps) Reduces the risk of the front stop tearing off in high impact situations Improves release during heavy compression 35 mm adjustment base Wide drilling holes Heel pad included Toe plate riser DIN from 3.5 to 7
