Many free heel skiers would like some additional help when tired at the end of the day, or when conditions are getting dicey and some alpine turns would be handy. The M-Equipment have developed a handy lightweight touring heel unit that can be added the Meidjo bindings to convert them into alpine touring bindings as required. Easily fitted just behind the heel units of the Meidjo.

This heel unit is designed to be used in conjunction with the Meidjo in Downhill mode. The AT Heel Unit has a non-adjustable lateral release of about 1-2 DIN and is designed to be used with the bindings in Downhill mode with the spring box connected to the 2nd heel of the boot. These heel units are not designed to be used with alpine touring boots, or with NTN 2-pin boots with the bindings in walk mode. The heel unit allows the skier to ski alpine technique safely with lateral release determined by the combined resistance of the Meidjo spring box and the Alpine Heel unit. The latter must not be used alone.

The advantage of this system is that the skier does not need to remove the skis to change between telemark and alpine modes, so can do so quickly and safely even on steep terrain

How do these work?
1: The heel unit is static, and does not move forward or twist to the side for walk or "telemark" mode.
2 The heel unit does not replace the Meidjo heel unit but is positioned immediately behind the Meidjo heel unit, and shares the rear two screws of the latter.
3 :The "U" shaped spring can be easily moved forward and backwards using the ski poles - no need to take the boot out of the binding to use the heel unit.
4: Please contact us if not sure how to use these heel units - we're here to help.

With the addition of ski brakes and ski crampon supports, the Meidjo ticks most of the boxes of the famous "Holy Grail" of telemark bindings that so many have searched for over the last 20 years
