Dynafit's top-of-the-range Low Tech Race bindings weigh only 105 g per ski, 5 g less than the previous version. As well as being lighter, these bindings are also stronger, with both the toeplate and the heel unit being stiffer for even better downhill performance.
The Low Tech Race 105 is available with either automatic or manual locking toe units. With the automatic version, the toe piece lever lifts into uphill mode automatically when the boot steps into the binding, while in the manual version this has to be done by hand before starting skinning up. The toeplate of the Low Tech Race has an optimized hole pattern to reduce the possibility of binding pull out and increase binding stiffness for even better control.
The ISMF (International Ski Mountaineering Federation) regulations specify that toe locking must be manually operated. The automatic version is no longer allowed for competitions. If you're racing then you'll need the manual version, but if not, many tourers appreciate the convenience of the automatic.
Dynafit have strengthened the heel unit with a stiff external metal frame providing reliable performance whatever the snow conditions. Unlike most race bindings which use a one piece "U" spring, Dynafit have used separate pins for the heel units which have the advantage of being longer lasting than "U" springs. Switching from walk to ski mode is fast - just lift up the heel flap which covers the heel pins in walk mode. It's simple and fast.
Dynafit's Low Tech Race bindings have been leading the pack for many years and the latest generation bindings take racing performance to the next level.
